" Los medios del arte de representar una cosa -estilo, técnica y el objeto representado- son las circunstancias del arte, así como las cualidades individuales del artista (modo de vida, habilidades, ambiente) son circunstancias del arte. El arte puede ser creada en armonía con las circunstancias así como en desafío a ellas. En sí misma el arte no es visible ni definible: todo lo visible e imitable son sus circunstancias que fácilmente pueden ser equivocadas por ser el arte mismo. En cuanto una actividad artística se convierte en un 'ismo', deja de ser una actividad artística. Vivir es luchar diariamente por la forma y la sobrevivencia. (A manera de analogía: el interés social es una forma y un método actual visto como algo apropiado y correcto. Pero cuando se eleva a sí mismo en Socialismo, una orden y un dogma, pierde sus verdaderas y mejores cualidades y puede inclusive volverse criminal.)"
