"Lo terrible está encerrado en lo bello, lo mismo que lo bello en lo terrible. La vida está involucrada en esa contradicción, grandiosa hasta llegar al absurdo, una contradicción que en el arte aparece como unidad armoniosa y dramática a la vez. La imagen posibilita percibir esa unidad, en la que todo se halla contiguo al resto, todo fluye y penetra lo demás. Se puede hablar de la idea de una imagen, expresar su esencia con palabras. Es posible verbalizar, formular un pensamiento, pero esta descripción nunca le hará justicia. Una imagen se puede crear y sentir, aceptar o rechazar, pero no se puede comprender en un sentido racional. La idea de lo infinito no se puede expresar con palabras, ni siquiera se puede describir. Pero el arte proporciona esa posibilidad, hace que lo infinito sea perceptible. A lo absoluto sólo se accede por la fe y por la actividad creadora. Las condiciones imprescindibles para la lucha del artista hasta llegar a su propio arte son la fe en sí mismo, la disposición de servir y la falta de compromiso externo."

El Arte como ansia de lo ideal
"La creación artística exige del artista una verdadera entrega de sí mismo, en el sentido más trágico de la palabra. Si el arte trabaja con los jeroglíficos de la verdad absoluta, cada uno de éstos es una imagen del mundo, incluído de una vez para siempre en la obra de arte. Y si el conocimiento científico y frío de la realidad es como un ir avanzando por los peldaños de una escalera sin fin, el conocer artístico recuerda un sistema infinito de esferas interiormente perfectas, cerradas en sí mismas. Las esferas pueden complementarse o contradecirse mutuamente, pero en ningún caso puede una sustituir a la otra. Todo lo contrario: se enriquecen mutuamente y forman en su totalidad una esfera especial, más general, que crece hasta el infinito. Estas revelaciones poéticas, de validez eterna, con fundamento en sí mismas, dan testimonio de que el ser es capaz de conocer y de expresar de quién es imagen."

"The creation of art requires that the artist truly gives of himself, in the most tragic sense of the word.
