El perro y la jicotea se pusieron en una porfía para saber cuál de los dos llegaba primero a un determinado sitio. La jicotea quiso prepararse y fue a visitar a Obatalá para hacerse una rogación con un hueso y una maraña de hilo; llevó el abó al camino por donde tenía que pasar el perro. Cuando pasó el perro se entretuvo en roer el hueso, con la confianza que, cuando la jicotea estuviese cerca del final, él con sólo dos saltos la pasaría y sería el primero en llegar a la meta. El perro estaba tan entretenido con su hueso que, cuando pasó la jicotea él no la vio y al cabo de un rato pensó: "qué le habrá sucedido a la jicotea?", y decidió emprender su camino, pero se enredó en la maraña y luego vio a la jicotea llegando a la meta; así el perro perdió la apuesta.OWE: Una cosa piensas tú y otra tu contrario.La excesiva confianza no es síntoma de seguridad.No subestimes a nadie.

The dog and the turtle placed themselves in a contention to know which one would arrive first to a given site. The turtle wanted to prepare and went to visit Obatalá to get a rubbing prayer with a bone and a tangle of thread; she took the abó to the road where the dog had to pass. As he passed the dog amused himself with the bone, confident that, when the turtle was near the end, he had only to jump twice to pass her and would be the first to reach the goal. The dog was so busy with his bone, that when the turtle passed he didn't see her and after a while he thought, "what could have happened to the turtle?", and decided to make his way, but became entangled in the web and then he saw the turtle reaching the goal; thus, the dog lost the bet.
