Pataki de los Ibeyis (los mellizos)
A los mellizos les gusta estar divirtiéndose siempre. No es por gusto que son hijos de Changó y Ochún. Durante cierto tiempo les dio por tocar unos tamborcitos mágicos que les había regalado Yemayá, su madre adoptiva. Por entonces el Diablo puso trampas en todos los caminos y comenzó a comerse a todos los humanos que caían en ellas. Ni hombres ni mujeres, ni viejos ni niños, se escapaban de su voracidad. Entonces los Ibeyis se pusieron de acuerdo y Taewo agarró por uno de aquellos caminos, mientras Kainde lo seguia oculto en la espesura. Taewo iba tocando su tamborcito con tanto gusto que el Diablo se quedó embelesado, le advirtió para que no fuera a caer en la trampa y se puso a bailar. Pero cuando Taewo se cansó, Kainde salió del bosque y ocupó su lugar. Porque el problema era que aunque el Diablo estaba muy cansado, no podía dejar de bailar mientras los tamborcitos mágicos estuvieran sonando. Y cuando estaba agotado, los lbeyis le hicieron jurar que retiraría todas las trampas. Así fue como los lbeyis salvaron a los hombres y ganaron fama de poderosos, porque ningún otro orisha ha podido ganarle una pelea al Diablo.
Pataki of the Ibeyis (the twins)
The twins always like to be having fun. It is not casual that they are children of Shango and Oshun. For a time they went on playing two magic drums that Yemaya, their adoptive mother, had given them. By then the devil put traps on all the roads and began to eat all the humans who fell into them. Neither men nor women nor children nor old, escaped his voracity. The Ibeyis then agreed and Taewo went one of those roads, while Kainde followed him hiding in the bush. Taewo was playing his little drum with such gusto that the Devil was enthralled, he warned him not to fall into the trap and began to dance. But when Taewo got tired, Kainde got out of the woods and took his place. Because the problem was that even if the Devil was very tired, he could not stop dancing while the magical drums were sounding. And when he was exhausted, the Ibeyis made him swear he would withdraw all the traps. That is how the lbeyis saved the humans and gained a reputation for being powerful, because no other orisha has been able to beat the Devil in a fight.
