mural de "la cocina mágica" re-encontrado

          Ayer me re-encontré con este mural en el comedor de la Escuela Maternal Juanita Pimentel en San José, Caracas que pinté en Noviembre, 1983. Parece mentira, elaborado hace casi 30 años y está en un estado de conservación bastante aceptable. Lo voy a restaurar para la escuelita a partir de Mayo de este año; creo que vale la pena. He recibido una grata sorpresa y se ve que lo han querido todos estos años por el estado en que se encuentra. Ahora solo necesito ver si consigo algo de financiamiento para comprar las pinturas que deben ser de buena calidad.

          La escena es una "Cocina Mágica" en la que una gigante cocinera le saca colores y estrellas a una olla inmensa que hace centro en la pared. Es un homenaje a la Sra. Juanita Pimentel y lo hice a través de Don Pedro Miguel Castillo y el Profesor Modesto Sánchez quienes presidían en ese momento el Consejo Venezolano del Niño. Ahora cuando lo restaure se lo dedicaré a Don Pedro, abuelo de mi hija Nayarí Castillo. 

          Me siento muy contenta con este re-encuentro con esas imágenes: ilustraciones infantiles para esos niños pequeñitos que deben ver una inmensidad desplegada frente a ellos cuando lo miran hacia arriba. Las figuras de una muñeca de trapo, niños comiendo espaghettis y jugando con limones, una gallina y otros elementos llenan la escena. Los colores son brillantes y alegres. Tengo que pintarlo casi todo de nuevo para darle una capa fresca y renovarlo, pero en realidad los pequeños daños están en la base de la pared y no es tan complicado restaurarlo. No hay humedad en el lugar y eso ha colaborado al mantenimiento.

          Yesterday I re-encountered this mural in the dining room of the Juanita Pimentel Nursery School in San Jose, Caracas, which I painted in November 1983. It seems incredible, made almost 30 years ago and it is in quite acceptable condition. I will restore it for the little school in May  of this year; I think it is worth doing it. I received a pleasant surprise and it seems to have been appreciated all these years by the way it has been conserved. Now I just need to see if I can get some funding to buy the paints which must be of good quality.
           The scene is a "Magic Kitchen" in which a giant cook stirs colors and stars out of a huge pot in the center wall. It is a tribute to Ms. Juanita Pimentel and I elaborated it through Don Pedro Miguel Castillo and Professor Modesto Sanchez who presided at that time the Venezuelan Children's Council. Now when I restore it I will dedicate it to Don Pedro, my daughter Nayarí Castillo's grandfather.
           I am very happy to meet again with these images: children's illustrations for these little kids who see a vast display before them when they look up. The figures of a rag doll, children eating spaghetti and playing with lemons, a chicken and other items fill up the scene. The colors are bright and cheerful. I have to paint almost everything over in order to give it a fresh coat and renew it, but the minor damage is really only at the base of the wall and restoring it will not be that complicated. There is no moisture in the place and that has contributed to its maintenance.
