Aquí, el tránsito de un hombre que se está despojando de su piel heroica y, por ende, de la noción de areté, para entrar en el ámbito de lo humano, es decir, de las contradicciones, los claroscuros, las aventuras y las errancias; en su trajinar hace uso de una inteligencia "práctica", todo sea para llegar a Ítaca, su lugar de origen, la tierra donde está su padre, su nodriza, Euriclea, su perro, Argos, su hijo Telémaco y su esposa Penélope, asediada por los pretendientes, quienes han tomado su casa para un festín: Odiseo lleva veinte años fuera, muchos lo dan por muerto y ya es hora que penélope tenga un nuevo marido. Pronto, la matanza.
