Cuántas veces se pueden hacer las maletas,
cuántas veces se puede mudar uno de casa,
mudar los vecinos, mudar la piel,
cuántas veces los huecos y las metáforas manidas,
cuántas veces se puede querer,
cuántas veces abrir las piernas en vano,
cuántos abortos,
cuántos cuerpos pueden ensombrecer por la mañana,
cuántas almohadas mordisqueadas,
cuántas navidades en abril,
cuánto queda por vivir,
cuántas lágrimas
y exactamente
cuántas madrugadas
al amparo de un poema.

In the light of a reading lamp
How many times can you pack your bags,
how many times can one move from home,
move the neighbors, move the skin,
how many times the gaps and overused metaphors,
how many times can you love,
how many times open the legs in vain,
how many abortions,
how many afflicted bodies in the morning,
how many nibbled pillows,
how many Christmases in April,
how much remains to be lived,
how many tears
and exactly
how many early mornings
under the protection of a poem.
