 Fe de vida

El animal estaba dormido o muerto en el suelo:

acerque la varilla y hurgué en la suavidad interna.

Quiero comprobar si aún la vida puede manifestarse

Con espasmos y secreciones,

             o solo es quietud, inmovilidad y silencio.

Está en el piso, mitad cemento mitad arbusto,

y los insectos rodean su calma, pinchan la carne.

 Proof of life

The animal was asleep or dead on the ground:

I moved the rod closer and poked its inner softness.

I want to verify if life can still manifest itself

with spasms and secretions,

              or if it is only stillness, immobility and silence.

It is on the floor, half cement half bush,

and insects surround its calm, pester the flesh.
