Obstáculos lentos
Si el poema de este atardecer
fuese la piedra mineral
que cae hacia un imán
en un resguardo hondísimo;
si fuese un fruto necesario
para el hambre de alguien,
y maduraran puntuales
el hambre y el poema;
si fuese el pájaro que vive por su ala,
si fuese el ala que sustenta al pájaro,
si cerca hubiese un mar
y el grito de gaviotas del crepúsculo
diese la hora esperada;
si a los helechos de hoy
-no los que guarda fósiles el tiempo--
los mantuviese verdes mi palabra;
si todo fuese natural y amable...
Pero los itinerarios inseguros
se diseminan sin sentido preciso.
Nos hemos vuelto nómades,
sin esplendores en la travesía,
ni dirección adentro del poema.

Slow obstacles
If this evening's poem
were the mineral stone
that falls towards a magnet
in a very deep shelter;
if it were a necessary fruit
for someone's hunger,
and would ripen on time
the hunger and the poem;
if it were the bird that lives by its wing,
if it were the wing that sustains the bird,
if there was a sea nearby
and the scream of twilight gulls
would give the expected time;
if to the ferns today
-not the ones that time safeguards as fossils--
my word could maintain green;
if everything were natural and kind ...
But the insecure itineraries
spread without precise sense.
We have become nomads,
without splendors in the crossing,
nor direction in the poem.
