Del Zodíaco Neotropical, la pereza::sloth

          Entre los siglos XVIII y XIX, una nueva oleada de viajeros vino a Suramérica buscando El Dorado. Todos lo encontraron, en diferentes rincones de la variadísima geografía del continente. A sus ávidos oídos habían llegado, allende el mar, las más asombrosas descripciones de la naturaleza del trópico Americano (el Neo-trópico), nuestro verdadero Dorado, una de las regiones con mayor diversidad del planeta. Fauna y flora sin igual despertaban en su imaginación curiosidad, respeto, admiración, temor y repulsión.

          De los encuentros entre estos naturalistas y el vasto continente quedaron numerosos testimonios. Pero es en las imágenes donde se despliegan de la forma más elocuente las emociones que mantuvieron a dichos viajeros conectados con tan excepcionalmente rico mundo natural.

          De entre la abundantísima fauna que nos rodea, he hecho una selección, basándome en la simbología del zodíaco babilónico, que puede reflejar nuestra naturaleza más íntima. Son los doce de oro del zodíaco tropical, un ejercicio en homenaje a aquellos que con sus ilustraciones mitificaron a El Dorado suramericano, nacido de la fusión entre una naturaleza exuberante y un mundo iconsciente desbordante de símbolos.

La pereza (23 de Septiembre- 22 de Octubre)

Los nativos del signo de la pereza se andan siempre por las ramas. Desplazándose a grandes alturas, su permanente búsqueda del equilibrio y la armonía es la base de su supervivencia. Sin embargo, en este exagerado afán de equilibrio pueden malgastar una buena parte de sus energías, teniendo dificultades para concretar sus metas. La pereza es, sin duda, el signo más indeciso del zodíaco neotropical.

           In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a new wave of travelers came to South America searching for El Dorado. They all found it, in different corners of the geographically very varied continent. From beyond the sea, the most amazing descriptions of the nature of the American tropics (the Neo-Tropics), the region with the greatest bio-diversity on the planet, our real Dorado, had reached their avid ears. Peerless fauna and flora aroused in their imagination curiosity, respect, admiration, fear and repulsion Unequaled wildlife aroused in their imagination curiosity, respect, admiration, fear and repulsion.
           Of the encounter between these naturalists and the vast continent many records were left. But it is in images that the emotions that kept those travelers connected with this exceptionally rich natural world were most eloquently displayed.
           From the teeming fauna that surrounds us I have made a selection, based on the symbolism of the Babylonian zodiac, that can reflect our innermost nature. These are the Golden Twelve of the Neo-Tropical Zodiac, a tribute to the travelers and artists who mythologized with their illustrations the South American El Dorado, born of the fusion of an exuberant nature with a boundless world of unconscious symbols.

Sloth (September 23-October 22)

People born under this sign are always beating around the bush. They move around at a great height, so that their constant search for balance and harmony is the basis of their survival. However, in this extreme striving for balance they can waste a large proportion of their energy, and they have difficulty in realizing their aims. The sloth is without a doubt the most undecided sign of the Neo-Tropical zodiac.
