What strikes me most about Maracaibo are the colors and their combinations that I find everywhere. It is a land of exacerbated intensity which blinds at first glance. If this is what covers the houses, constructs the fabrics worn by the Goajiras, accentuates the flowers in the drought; what may be inside the private spaces and souls of these people? My ancestors connect me to all this madness and reaffirm my relationship with color, forms and the mixtures that arise in the audacity of a scream expressed or the singing of the lake on its own shore. The wind blows hard and cool. The heat bewilders you. I love its contrasts, its gaps and its dualities. They think themselves as a different nation but they mark and extend the western end of this wounded country that is Venezuela at present.
