This morning I took a nice walk from Sabana Grande to Los Palos Grandes here in Caracas. Early I had taken the car to the mechanic shop and had my theater workshop at 11:00 am, so I decided this was a free day for me. I was curious to see the changes in Sabana Grande, but found it all very ugly, tattered and dirty. I do not know if any changes are coming for real except that the government has removed the billboards and advertisements from the shops to counteract consumerism and give another look to the "new socialist city." Until Chacaíto the atmosphere felt heavy and lead gray, there were long lines of people waiting for heaven knows what at certain distances in the boulevard in front of national banks and state institutions. I kept on walking straight taking some pictures on the sly, fearful of pulling the camera from my purse out on the street. Upon reaching Chacao, my apprehension disappeared and I felt calmer. Chacao has a tasty feeling of traveling and I arrived at the Chacao Bistro, a small diner where I had breakfast and drank delicious coffee. I stayed there for a while, reading and writing peacefully and untroubled.
