The sentient reality has always been for me a source of surprises. Also of evidences. In a 1940's distant article I alluded to poetry as "the testimony of the senses." Truthful testimony: its imagery is palpable, visible, audible. True, poetry is made of linked words that bounce reflections, shimmering and changing: what we learn from it are realities or illusions? Rimbaud said Et j'ai vu cquelquefois ec que l'homme a cru voir. Fusion of seeing and believing. The combination of these two words is the secret of poetry and its testimony: that which the poem shows us, we do not see with our eyes of flesh but with those of the spirit. Poetry makes us touch the impalpable and listen to the tide of silence covering a landscape ravaged by insomnia. The poetic testimony reveals another world within this world, the other world that is this world. The senses, without losing their powers, become servants of the imagination and make us hear what is unheard of and see what is imperceptible. Is not this, indeed, what happens in the dream and the erotic encounter? The same when we dream as when we mate, we embrace ghosts. Our partner has a body, a face and a name but his real reality, precisely in the most intense moment of the embrace, is dispersed in a cascade of sensations which, at the same time, dissipate. There is a question that all the lovers ask and in it the erotic mystery condenses: Who are you? A question without an answer .... The senses are and are not of this world. Through them, poetry draws a bridge between seeing and believing. Through this bridge the imagination materializes corporally and the bodies become images.
