I live in the university world and I get invited to give completely theoretical courses. One of the things that strikes me is the way people sit. They prop up their heads as they write, as if they were tired, looking at you trying to absorb what you are teaching them. It's a kind of sadness and the fact is, Western education is a bit sad. It's a way of learning, but I see something else. What I see is the trauma of a child who is dragged to school and who screams bloody murder not to be left there, so you wonder, "What is wrong with the place?" I sometimes make jokes and I say that when they say "the child is in the classroom", I get the impression of a cage, and when I see the desk at which the child works, it makes me sad because it is too small a space for a child's activity. Classroom-cage. Even the conscious language of teachers and parents reflects this when they ask, "At what time are they let out?", as if they were jailed. Then they open the door and the kids pour out. In the university world, when I'm teaching what the body image is, or the cultural body, or the idea of rhythm, in which people unconsciously coordinate feet with head and sight, people try to show a bit of enthusiasm. And there is something that must be asked of all educators. That is to say, there is no learning if there is no love. But teaching is ineffective if you don't create genuine enthusiasm in another. Even the origin of the word says it- it means sharing with God. Being enthused involves entering into contact with values, entering into contact with what is most human. And there is nothing more human than joy, happiness. it is the true ideal of every individual and society.
