La Velada de Santa Lucía 2011: las Santas Advertencias de Lourdes Peñaranda

 

Continúo incorporando al blog algunas de las imágenes que hice fotográficamente durante la Velada de Santa Lucía en Maracaibo, Venezuela, entre el 3 y 6 de Marzo, 2011. La Velada es un encuentro de creadores organizado por Clemencia Labin desde hace ya once años. Su característica primordial es la de ser una escultura social viva que mezcla y une a los artistas participantes con la gente que conforma la comunidad de Santa Lucía, uno de los antiguos barrios de la ciudad de Maracaibo. Todos participamos/convivimos/compartimos a diferentes niveles durante una semana y en especial durante las noches del viernes y sábado en el que viene mucha gente de todo Maracaibo y el país a celebrar y a ver los resultados creados. Año tras año, por ser una experiencia viva, han habido cambios, ha ido creciendo y madurando como vivencia estética para todos los involucrados.

       Hoy quiero resaltar la serie de Santas Advertencias de Lourdes Peñaranda. En el catálogo de la Velada de Santa Lucía 2010, ella escribe:

El proyecto comunitario Velada Santa Lucía ofrece la posibilidad de interactuar por unos días con esta comunidad, pero cuando la euforia y el bullicio termina, el barrio vuelve a su bucólica normalidad. Por esta razón desde hace tres años decidí realizar un proyecto que permaneciera en el tiempo más allá de los límites del evento, que quedara en las paredes y mesas de las casas a manera de colección.

Es una tradición local muy arraigada la de colocar santos y vírgenes cerca de las puertas para protección. Santas Advertencias propone la intervención de estampitas religiosas que rezan advertencias cargadas de sutiles ironías relacionadas con el personaje de cada año.

Así en el 2008 fue Santa Lucía, en el 2009 La Chinita, en el 2010 San Benito y en el 2011 San Sebastián.

I continue to include some of the photographic images taken during the Evening of Santa Lucia in Maracaibo, Venezuela, between March 3th through 6th, 2011. The Velada is a gathering of artists organized by Clemencia Labin starting eleven years ago. Its main characteristic is to be a live social sculpture that mixes and brings together participating artists with the people who make up the community of Santa Lucia, one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city of Maracaibo. We all participate / live together / share at different levels during a week and especially during Friday and Saturday nights in which many people come from Maracaibo and the rest of the country to celebrate and see the results created. Year after year, because it is a life experience, there have been changes, it has grown and matured as an aesthetic experience for all involved.
       Today I want to highlight the series of Saintly Warnings by Lourdes Peñaranda. In the catalog for the Velada of Santa Lucia 2010, she writes:

The Velada Santa Lucia community project offers the opportunity to interact for a few days with this community, but when the euphoria and the bustle ends, the neighborhood returns to its charming rural landscape. For this reason I decided three years ago to develop a project that would remain beyond the limits of the event, something would be left on the walls and tables of the houses by way of a collection.
It is a deeply rooted local tradition that stamps of Saints and Virgins be placed near the doors for protection. Saintly Warnings proposes an intervention through religious stamps which offer prayers charged with subtle ironies related to the character of the Saint for each year.
Thus in 2008 was Santa Lucia, in 2009 La Chinita, in the 2010 San Benito and San Sebastian in 2011.
