La Velada de Santa Lucía 2011: intervención de Mariantonia Blanco

Continúo incorporando al blog algunas de las imágenes hechas durante la Velada de Santa Lucía en Maracaibo, Venezuela, entre el 3 y 6 de Marzo, 2011. Tenemos muchas fotos a la mano y las incluiré lentamente para darme el chance de reflexionar y contar las experiencias vividas. La Velada es un encuentro de creadores organizado por Clemencia Labin desde hace ya once años. Su característica primordial es la de ser una escultura social viva que mezcla y une a los artistas participantes con la gente que conforma la comunidad de Santa Lucía, uno de los antiguos barrios de la ciudad de Maracaibo. Todos participamos/convivimos/compartimos a diferentes niveles durante una semana y en especial durante las noches del viernes y sábado en el que viene mucha gente de todo Maracaibo y el país a celebrar y a ver los resultados creados. Año tras año, por ser una experiencia viva, han habido cambios, ha ido creciendo y madurando como vivencia estética para todos los involucrados.
Hoy quiero resaltar la obra de intervención urbana "Se Busca" de Mariantonia Blanco. En su propuesta ella presenta su obra escribiendo:

Esta intervención forma parte de un trabajo iniciado por la artista en el año 2.000, cuyo centro es el billete de 5 Bolívares. La última edición de este billete data de 1.989 y está firmada por Pedro Tinoco, entonces presidente del Banco Central y famoso por la edición de papel moneda en billetes de denominación de 1 y 2 Bolívares, llamados coloquialmente: “Tinoquitos”. Entre los años 1.998 y 2.000 los billetes rojos de 5 Bolívares, circulaban aún, como símbolo de la devaluación (llegaron a valer 1 US Dólar) y su valor de cambio era casi nulo; llegando a convertirse en el papel tapiz más barato del mercado, a un valor de 425 Bs. el metro cuadrado, 75 Bolívares más barato que el metro de papel Kraft, para ese entonces.

“Se Busca” es una propuesta para invadir espacios urbanos y retomar la memoria de ese Bolívar rojo y de su relación con la política y la economía Venezolana de los últimos 20 años. “Se busca” pretende rescatar la memoria de lo que fuimos y ser un recordatorio de lo que somos ahora, un país de héroes devaluados y manipulados. Parte de la serie “Bolívar-es” puede verse en www.myspace.com/mariantuan, esta es la segunda edición de “Se Busca” la primera es del año 2000. La intervención en Santa Lucía, consta de posters tamaño carta y pegatinas de 7 x 10 cm de la figura del Libertador tal cual como aparece en el billete de 1989, pero en el contexto de un cartel que ofrece una recompensa por su captura.

I continue to include some of the photographic images taken during the Evening of Santa Lucia in Maracaibo, Venezuela, between March 3th through 6th, 2011. We have many photos in our hands and slowly I will include them to give me the chance to reflect and tell about the experiences that were lived there. The Velada is a gathering of artists organized by Clemencia Labin starting eleven years ago. Its main characteristic is to be a live social sculpture that mixes and brings together participating artists with the people who make up the community of Santa Lucia, one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city of Maracaibo. We all participate / live together / share at different levels during a week and especially during Friday and Saturday nights in which many people come from Maracaibo and the rest of the country to celebrate and see the results created. Year after year, because it is a life experience, there have been changes, it has grown and matured as an aesthetic experience for all involved.
Today I highlight the urban intervention piece "Wanted" by Mariantonia Blanco. In her proposal she introduces her work by writing:

This intervention is part of a work begun by the artist in the year 2000, with the bill of 5 Bolívars as its central theme. The latest edition of the bill dates to 1,989 and is signed by Pedro Tinoco, then the president of the Venezuelan Central Bank and famous for the issue of paper currency notes in denomination of 1 and 2 Bs, colloquially called "Tinoquitos." Between 1,998 and 2,000, the red 5 Bolívars bill still circulated, as a symbol of the devaluation (it got to be worth 1 U.S. dollar) and its exchange value was almost zero; rising to become the cheapest wallpaper with a market value of 425 Bs per square meter, 75 Bolivares a meter, cheaper even than the brown packing paper.

"Wanted" is a proposal to invade urban spaces and return to the memory of that red Bolivar and his relationship to politics and the Venezuelan economy during the last 20 years. "Wanted" is intended to save the memory of what we were and be a reminder of what we are now, a country of undervalued and manipulated heroes. Part of the series "Bolivar" can be seen at www.myspace.com/mariantuan, this is the second edition of "Wanted" since the first one comes from 2000. The intervention in Santa Lucia consists on the elaboration of posters and stickers letter size 7 x 10 cm from the figure of the Liberator as it appears on the bills of 1989, but in the context of a poster which offers a reward for his capture.
