 Plegaria

Damos gracias a nuestra madre, la tierra, que nos sostiene. Damos gracias a los ríos y a los arroyos que nos dan el agua. Damos gracias a todas las plantas que nos dan los remedios contra nuestras enfermedades. Damos gracias al maíz y a sus hermanas las habas y a las calabazas, que nos dan la vida. Damos gracias a los setos y a los árboles que nos dan sus frutos. Damos gracias al viento que mueve el aire y atrapa las enfermedades. Damos gracias a la luna y a las estrellas que nos han dado su claridad después de la partida del sol. Damos gracias a nuestro abuelo Hé-no, por haber protegido a sus niños de las brujas y de los reptiles, y por habernos dado su lluvia. Damos gracias al sol que ha mirado a la tierra con mirada complaciente. Por último, damos gracias al Gran Espíritu en quien se encarna toda bondad y que guías todas las cosas para el bien de sus hijos.

Prayer

We thank our mother, the earth, that sustains us. We thank the rivers and streams that give us water. We thank all the plants that give us the remedies for our ills. We thank the corn and its sister beans and squashes, which give us life. We thank the hedges and trees that give us their fruits. We thank the wind that moves the air and catch the diseases. We thank the moon and the stars who have given us the clarity after the departure of the sun. We give thanks to our grandfather He-no, for having protected his children from witches and reptiles, and for giving us his rain. We thank the sun for having looked at the earth lovingly. Finally, we thank the Great Spirit in whom is embodied all goodness and guides all things for the sake of their children.
