HERMANOS DEL AGUA: ¿en qué se diferencia el discurso plástico entre ambos?

El domingo 9 de Octubre se inauguró nuestra exposición HERMANOS DEL AGUA en la Galería Templarios. En el texto del catálogo, que continúo publicando en este blog, hay una entrevista que Alberto Asprino, curador y amigo nuestro, nos hace y que nosotros le contestamos:

Todo evento expositivo de una manera u otra, está orientado hacia un interés puntual, ya  sea desde la visión curatorial, institucional o personal. Unir dos artistas  que además de explorar medios comunes son hermanos, no deja de ser peculiar y por demás interesante.

Alberto Asprino: ¿En qué se diferencia el discurso plástico entre ambos?

Consuelo Méndez: Lo que se perciba en el espacio creado va establecer la diferencia entre las obras. Marcar la diferencia y establecer diálogo entre ambas es el reto de  JF y tú, Alberto, museografía y curaduría. Deseo que los que entren en el  espacio Templarios vivan una experiencia sensible con la profundidad e intensidad que nosotros hemos vivido al crear las obras.

Hernán y yo nos formamos por separado pero trabajamos elementos y medios que nos acercan. Tenemos miradas amigas y cómplices, intereses cercanos, sin embargo, somos individualidades cada uno en su energía, tiempo, concepción de vida y creación. Creo que Hernán se muestra más juguetón y atrevido, a través de sus objetos, igualmente, creo que  mis estructuras visuales tienen ligereza y aire expresivo.

Hernán Alvarado: Son distintos y en la última orientación por donde va lo mío es más evidente, por supuesto que hay más de un punto donde se tocan.  Estimo que mi acercamiento a los objetos tiene un eco Pop lejano y que deliberadamente traigo a protagonizar ahora. El paisaje tiene el mismo abordaje, herencia de los dibujantes chinos: se observa, se retiene en la memoria y ¡zas! se dibuja en cuadernos, acompaña a la literatura, la poesía, la caligrafía, en fin,  lo que se ha llamado ¨las tres perfecciones¨.

La gráfica es otra cosa. Y yo acudo en estos momentos al medio digital, la máquina promete todo hasta el paraíso. Si no eres un verdadero artista gráfico, el resultado es  simple reproducción, una fotocopia, el artista gráfico con todos sus recursos alimenta a la máquina y su cerebro y potencia sus posibilidades.

A la reproducción mesiánica y mecánica hay que cortocircuitarla, Consuelo utiliza la fotografía extensamente, yo veo mucha fotografía pero no requiero de su facultad.

A.A.: Mirar al otro como valor de acercamiento humano no es  precisamente común en el contexto creativo. ¿Cómo se miran ambos?, ¿Prevalece la hermandad?.

C.M.: Haber conocido a Hernán como hermano mayor en mi vida (1985), ha sido un  evento precioso y sorpresivo de mi existencia. Desde ese instante mi vida sufre un cambio maravilloso en su dimensión afectiva porque encuentro un ser que no sabía que existía y pertenece al mismo mundo creativo, lleno de amigos, experiencias e intereses en común. Descubrirlo creador, maestro, artista visual, gráfico, papelero, librero y poeta abrió muchos canales de conexiones entre los dos. Este regalo en mi vida es una manifestación del mundo ancestral de mi papá nacido en Maracaibo, como el de Hernán nacido en Isla de Toas, en pleno Lago de Maracaibo. La hermandad prevalece y se ha ido consolidando en el tiempo. Ahora el destino hace de las suyas y nos une por primera vez para mostrar lo que hacemos.

H.A.: Consuelo y yo, tenemos rasgos comunes que van más allá de lo consanguíneo, somos artistas gráficos, somos dibujantes, nos interesa el libro como estructura, la enseñanza, y sobretodo nos queremos como amigos y como hermanos.

Any exhibition event in one way or another, is oriented toward a timely interest, either from the curatorial vision, institutional or personal. To join two artists who beside being brother and sister, explore common media, is no less peculiar and quite interesting.

Alberto Asprino: What is the difference of the visual discourse between the two of you?

Consuelo Méndez: What is perceived in the space created will establish the difference between the works. Marking a difference and creating dialogue between our works is the challenge you, J. F. Cantón and Alberto, have through the museology and curatorship. I wish that those who come in the space of Templarios Gallery live a sensible experience with the depth and intensity that we have lived to create the works. Hernán and I trained separately but we develop elements and media that bring us nearer. We have ways of looking that are friends and full of complicity, close interests, however, we are individuals each in his/her own energy, time, conception of life and creation. I think Hernán is more playful and daring through his objects, but also, I think my visual structures are light and expressive air.

Hernán Alvarado: They are different and in the final direction which mine is going is more evident, of course there is more than one point where they touch. I believe that my approach to objects has an echo of distant Pop which deliberately I am pointing out now. The landscape has the same approach, a legacy of Chinese artists: it is observed, retained in the memory and ZAS! it is drawn in notebooks, it accompanies literature, poetry, calligraphy, in short, what has been called ¨the three perfections¨.      

The graphics are another thing, and I now turn to the digital, the machine promises everything even paradise. If you are not a real graphic artist, the result is simple reproduction, photocopy, the graphic artist with all his resources feeds the machine and his brain and boosts its possibilities.     

Messianic and mechanical reproduction must be short circuited. Consuelo uses photography extensively, I see a lot of photography but do not require its faculty.

A.A.: To see the other as a value of human approach is not exactly common in the creative context. How do you see each other?, ¿brotherhood prevails?.

C.M.: Having met Hernán as my older brother in my life (1985), has been a wonderful and unexpected event in my existence. From that moment my life undergoes a wonderful change in the affective dimension because I find a being whom I did not know existed and who belongs to the creative world, full of friends, experiences and interests in common. To discover him as creator, teacher, visual artist, graphic, paper lover, bookmaker and poet opened many channels of connections between the two of us. This gift in my life is a manifestation of the ancient world of my father who was born in Maracaibo and the world of Hernán who was born in Toas Island, in the Lake Maracaibo. The brotherhood prevails and has been consolidated over time. Now fate plays its tricks and joins us for the first time to show what we do.

H.A.: Consuelo and I have common characteristics that go beyond blood relation, we are graphic artists, we are draftsmen, we are interested in the book as a structure, in teaching, and above all we love each other as friends and as sister and brother.
