PIE DEL DESESPERO

Según la agencia ambientalista

una lata tarda entre ochenta y doscientos años en descomponerse,

una botella de plástico mil,

el vidrio millones.

Cuánto demorarán estas palabras en encontrar

su primer amanecer:

el día en que se abotonarán la camisa para tomar tu aliento.

Sólo intuyo qué cantidad de calendarios

tomará mi espalda en ceder

porque he aprendido a sobrevivir,

apretar los puños, fruncir el ceño

y esperar mi turno inclinada

donde los niños no hurgan la basura.

glass a million.

How long will it take for these words to find
their first sunrise:
the day in which they will button up the shirt to take your breath away.

I can only sense how many calendars
my back will take to give in
because I have learned to survive,
to clench my fists, to frown
and wait for my turn slanted
where children do not go through the trash.
