Because we go blind
in the day that goes out with us,
and because we have seen our breath
cloud
the mirror of air,
the eye of the air will open
on nothing but the word
we renounce: winter
will have been a place
of ripeness.
We who become the dead

Porque nos volvemos ciegos
en el día que expira con nosotros,
y porque hemos visto nuestro aliento
nublar
el espejo del aire,
el ojo del aire no ha de abrirse
a nada salvo a la palabra
a la que renunciamos: el invierno
habrá sido un lugar
de madurez.
Nosotros, convertidos en los muertos
de otra vida que la nuestra.
