oscurece la mirada
de este hombre solitario
en sus espacios.
Su jornada comienza
cuando todos se marchan
tranquilos a sus casas.
Entonces, sin prisa,
cierra las puertas
y asegura rejas y ventanas.
Sentado ya frente a la mesa
aguarda por la noche,
mientras el gris de las paredes
transparenta sombras
y voces familiares.
Al amanecer
el viejo sereno rendido
se abandona al sueño.

this solitary man's
glance darkens
in his spaces.
His work hours begin
when all leave
quietly home.
Then, without hurry,
he closes the doors
and ensures railings and windows.
Already sitting at the table
he waits through the night,
while the gray of the walls
filters shadows
and familiar voices.
At dawn
the old tired night watchman
abandons himself to sleep.
