Si no supiésemos lo que es
y lo que no es; si sólo
atendiéramos a ciertos motivos
y ciertos colores; si las raíces
del existir se encontraran en
otra vida; si la esperanza fuese
poca y mal dibujada y si
la palabra no fuese un acto,
tampoco estas líneas
serían un poema.

we paid attention to certain motives
and certain colors; if the roots
of existence could be found in
another life; if hope were
another life; if hope were
brief and badly drawn and if
the word was not an act,
these lines
would not be a poem.
