Los gallos
¿Por qué se oyen los gallos de pronto
a medianoche
si no queda ya un patio en tantos edificios?
Filtrados por muros de piedra
y rectos paredones
nos llegan sus ecos,
no se puede dormir, es más terrible
que en el tedio de las aldeas
cuando llenan el mundo de gritos.
Cruzan el empedrado,
la niebla de la calle,
alzan sus crestas de neón,
entran cuando el televisor borra sus duendes.
Pero no hay troja que los guarde
sino sombra de asfalto y sellados postigos,
¿de qué rincón vidrioso en los espejos
saltan
y se sacuden aleteando
las soledades de sus lejanías?
Gallos ventrílocuos donde me habla la noche
¿son mi parte de abismo?
Gallos en el sonambulismo de las cosas,
roncos a causa de la ausencia
en caminos de polvo
cuyas voces creímos extintas,
¿qué hacen a medianoche en la ciudad
tan lejos,
qué lamento los va acercando a mis oídos?

Roosters
Why are roosters heard suddenly
at midnight
if there isn't a courtyard among the buildings?
Filtered by stone walls
and straight walls
their echoes come to us,
you can't sleep, it's more terrible
than in the tedium of villages
where their cries fill the world.
They cross the pavement,
the fog on the street,
raise their neon crests,
come in when the TV clears its ghosts.
But there is no pen to hold them
instead asphalt shade and sealed shutters;
from which glassy corner on the mirrors
from which glassy corner on the mirrors
do they jump
flapping their wings and sway
the solitude of their distances?
Ventriloquist roosters where the night talks to me,
are they my share of abyss?
Roosters in the sleepwalking of things,
hoarse due to absence
on dirt roads
whose voices we believed extinct,
what do they do at midnight in the city
so distant,
which lament gets them closer to my ears?
