 Los otros árboles

Los más sentimentales no son verdes,
salvo en otoño, de un verdor opaco,
casi ocre
que es su color de ausencia.

Guardan madera para barcos
y cuartetos de cuerda,
sin embargo cuánto saben de música
o de viajes
es el paso del viento.

Otros en cambio llevan por el mundo
un verdor errante
como el bosque de Macbeth
y aunque nos cubran de follajes
tienen vetas amargas, nudosas,
nunca darán una guitarra.

Pero los más sentimentales no son verdes,
ni siquiera son árboles
sino hombres que no viajan
por amor a su aldea.
La vida es su color, el tiempo
que dispersa sus hojas,
sólo verdecen en otoño
pero ya tarde, cuando dicen adiós
y nadie se da cuenta.

 The other trees

The most sentimental are not green,
except in autumn, dull green,
almost ocher
its color of absence.

They save wood for boats
and string quartets,
yet how much they know of music
or travels
is the wind's passing.

Others, however, carry over the world
errant greenery
like Macbeth's forest
and although they cover us with foliage
their veins are bitter, knotty,
never will they produce a guitar.

But the most sentimental are not green,
they are not even trees
but men who do not travel
for the love for their village.
Life is their color, time
scattering their leaves,
they green only in autumn
but later, when they say farewell
and no one notices.
