Partida
aunque no parta.
estoy a bordo,
las naves cambiarán, no mi deseo,
-búsquenme en Rotterdam, escríbanme,
mi deseo tiene vuelo de gaviota
y nieve entre sus alas.

Farewell
I'm leaving with each boat from this port,
with each blue drop of oxygen
among hoarse whistles.
I'm going to Rotterdam where heavy snow falls now
and the Dutch seagulls
rummaging market goods
stand on the masts.
A cabin on each boat awaits for me,
a book by Li Po for my journey,
-look for me in Rotterdam, write me
even if I don't leave.
If I don't leave at this hour it'll be in another,
ships will change, not my desire,
my desire is in Rotterdam:
from here with the snow I see it
among the houses.
There is no single path over the sea
without its opposite,
there are no ways of being and not being when you travel.
If another path mediated to be simpler, more human,
I would leave without leaving,
snow would be warm to touch.
In each boat of this port
I have chartered my luggage,
even if I'm seen here tomorrow on the docks,
I'm on board,
ships will change, not my desire,
-look for me in Rotterdam, write me,
my desire has seagull flight
and snow in its wings.
