La lección del pato

Ansiedad migratoria: la excitación del pato cuando llega el

     momento del viaje: primero

una inquietud imperceptible, casi un cosquilleo: luego

idas y vueltas alrededor de un centro imaginario, un aleteo

que se torna insoportable: el punto de presión ya no da más

y sucede el desplazamiento: no hay retorno

ni ideas contrapuestas: la obligación de estar definitivamente en tránsito.

Ése soy yo,

mi estado natural: ansiedad migratoria cuando desayuno,

ansiedad migratoria mientras leo el diario, mientras me afeito,

cuando camino o estoy hundido en un sillón: a veces

se entromete en la charla y me obliga a dar por terminado el diálogo:

siempre la impaciencia, hasta que levanto vuelo y no hay regreso: que me

      desplace o no

ése es otro problema,

que acierte el rumbo, que haya

o no haya decepción.

Habrá que averiguar qué leña arde en ese fuego.

 The duck's lesson 

Migratory anxiety: the duck's exhilaration when the time 

      to travel arrives: first 

an imperceptible uneasiness, almost a tickle: then 

twists and turns around an imaginary center, a flutter 

that becomes unbearable: the pressure point has reached its highest 

and displacement happens: there's no return 

or contrasting ideas: duty to be definitely in transit. 

    That's me, 

my natural state: migratory anxiety when I eat breakfast, 

migratory anxiety while I read the newspaper, while I shave, 

when I walk or I'm sunk into a chair: sometimes 

it butts into the conversation and forces me to terminate the dialogue: 

always impatience, until I take up flight and there's no return:  

      that it displaces me or not 

that's another problem, 

that it hits the course, that there is 

or not, disappointment. 

I will have to find out what wood burns in that fire.
