 Asombro

si no fuese tan útil instrumento

 Astonishment

I'm amazed at ants that when they come, they go
so sure of themselves that scares me
because they are where they are without any question
and although as hints of life are perfect
tiny machines if they know
the when and where touches them
and ignore death as anything
if not so useful a instrument
making with the unarmed, new life.

But even enlarging its living minutiae
round in astonishment by looking at them
and saddens me that they will never know
as they are in their dark toil
and as immemorial as Earth

my grief amazes me more and convinces me
that knowing themselves well enough
even if the price is as high as
the great silence out there.
