En el patio
Pues me estuve entre las flores del patio
con las cayenas
gozando con las hojas y los rayos del cielo.
Aquí pongo mi cama y me acuesto
y me doy un baño de flores.
Y después saldré a decirles a las culebras y a las gallinas
y a todos los árboles.
Me estuve sobre las betulias y sobre las tejas de rosas
conversando, cenando, escuchando al viento.
Yo me voy a encontrar un caballo y seremos amigos.
Mañana le digo al sauco que me voy
hasta muy lejos, hasta allá donde están cantando los hombres,
donde corren los muertos y se entierran.
Yo caminaba por unos árboles, por unas hojas doradas
y me comía las estrellas, y me senté
y escuché la hierba alta y vi los ojos de una mujer
que brillaban como un diente
entonces arrojé una gran rama de naranjo
y todo quedó oscuro.

In the patio
Well, I was among the patio flowers
with the hibiscus
enjoying myself with the leaves and rays from the sky.
Here I put my bed and lie down
and take a flower bath.
And then I'll go out and tell the snakes and chickens
and all the trees.
I was on the betulia flowers and over the shingle roses
chatting, dining, listening to the wind.
I'm going to find a horse and we'll be friends.
Tomorrow I'll tell the sambucus that I'm leaving
very far away, to wherever the men are singing,
where the dead run and are buried.
I walked by some trees, through golden leaves
and I ate the stars, and sat down
and heard the tall grass and saw the eyes of a woman
that gleamed like a tooth
then I threw a big orange branch
and everything went dark.
