La Velada de Santa Lucía 2011: Pietro Daprano, ID performance

Continúo incorporando al blog algunas de las imágenes que hice fotográficamente durante la Velada de Santa Lucía en Maracaibo, Venezuela, entre el 3 y 6 de Marzo, 2011. Tengo muchas fotos en mis manos y las incluiré lentamente para darme el chance de reflexionar y contar las experiencias vividas. La Velada es un encuentro de creadores organizado por Clemencia Labin desde hace ya once años. Su característica primordial es la de ser una escultura social viva que mezcla y une a los artistas participantes con la gente que conforma la comunidad de Santa Lucía, uno de los antiguos barrios de la ciudad de Maracaibo. Todos participamos/convivimos/compartimos a diferentes niveles durante una semana y en especial durante las noches del viernes y sábado en el que viene mucha gente de todo Maracaibo y el país a celebrar y a ver los resultados creados. Año tras año, por ser una experiencia viva, han habido cambios, ha ido creciendo y madurando como vivencia estética para todos los involucrados.
       Hoy quiero resaltar la obra performática de Pietro Daprano quien fue invitado, junto con tres otros accionistas (siendo yo una de ellos), por el Centro Cultural Chacao de Caracas como parte del evento ID Performance a participar en la Velada de Santa Lucía, en Maracaibo. Desde hace cuatro años, se realiza el evento ID Performance, "propuesta que apoya el curso de esta manifestación del arte contemporáneo en nuestro país, y que ha consolidado un lugar de exhibición, investigación y difusión para artistas emergentes y de trayectoria en un espacio plural y de experimentación." En el catálogo de la IV Edición de este evento, se lee:

      Esta edición de ID Performance se centra en la percepción del cuerpo como memoria y diálogo constante de un ciudadano que día a día se enfrenta al desplazamiento de su historia, arraigo y referencias, con lo cual, propusimos a los creadores profundizar y accionar desde la pluralidad del cuerpo sobre las variables de nuestro entorno.

      Dentro del tema de la Unidad de lo Múltiple: la vista, Pietro Daprano presentó la performance "El aspirante" por primera vez en el Centro Cultural Chacao el jueves 16 de Septiembre, 2010. Para la Velada de Santa Lucía 2011, los curadores Lorena González e Ivan Oropeza seleccionan esta acción para ser llevada al espacio por segunda vez. Pietro se presenta como "el aspirante" quien al respirar, inspira y expira llenando con su aliento unas bolsitas plásticas previamente selladas con algunas palabras: Sed, Perdón, Libertad, Cooperación, Tolerancia, Paciencia, Amistad. Para comenzar Pietro toma la escalera y se mueve haciendo círculos sobre la calle hasta llamar la atención. La acción se desarrolla mientras Pietro sube y baja la escalera soplando cada bolsita con paciencia y concentración. Después de llenada la bolsita, él se la entrega a alguna de las personas que lo observa. Mantengo cierta distancia para poder tomar las fotos; veo que se forma una especie de círculo humano alrededor de Pietro, poco a poco le encuentro sentido a la acción y comprendo que en esta performance habla un oráculo, poético y sublime. Al recibir la palabra escrita sobre un globo transparente, la persona reacciona, se sorprende y siente alivio al leerla como un mensaje de ese instante. A mí me tocó la palabra Sed al terminar mi propia acción y sentí que era la palabra justa para ese momento. Más tarde Pietro me entrega otra bolsita con la palabra Perdón y me solicita en secreto hacer algo con ella. Cerca de mí una mujer jóven recibe una con la palabra Cooperación y se ríe, contenta. A pesar del desorden natural de la celebración y el movimiento inquieto de la gente, esta acción tuvo momentos de gloria en el que pareciese haberse detenido el tiempo a cámara lenta. "El aspirante" es una performance intensa, sentida, expresiva, que deja huella emocional en el artista y el espectador a la vez.

I continue to include some of the photographic images I took during the Evening of Santa Lucia in Maracaibo, Venezuela, between March 3th through 6th, 2011. I have many photos in my hands and slowly I will include them to give me the chance to reflect and tell about the experiences that were lived there. The Velada is a gathering of artists organized by Clemencia Labin starting eleven years ago. Its main characteristic is to be a live social sculpture that mixes and brings together participating artists with the people who make up the community of Santa Lucia, one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city of Maracaibo. We all participate / live together / share at different levels during a week and especially during Friday and Saturday nights in which many people come from Maracaibo and the rest of the country to celebrate and see the results created. Year after year, because it is a life experience, there have been changes, it has grown and matured as an aesthetic experience for all involved.
       Today I highlight the performance work of Pietro Daprano who was invited, along with three other performance artists (I among them), by the Centro Cultural Chacao in Caracas as part of the event ID Performance to participate in the Velada Santa Lucía in Maracaibo. During these past four years, the event ID Performance has been considered "a proposal that supports the course of this expression of contemporary art in our country, and has established a place of exhibition, research and connection with emerging and experienced artists in a plural and experimental space." In the catalog of the fourth edition of this event, the text reads:

In this edition ID Performance focuses on the perception of the body as memory and constant dialogue of an everyday citizen who faces, day to day, the displacement of his/her history, roots and references; with which, we proposed to  the creators to deepen and move from the plurality of the body and the variables in our environment.

      Within the theme of the Multiple Unit: sight, Pietro Daprano presented the performance "El aspirante" for the first time at the Chacao Cultural Centre on Thursday September 16, 2010. For the Velada of St. Lucia 2011, the curators Lorena Gonzalez and Ivan Oropeza selected this action to be performed a second time. Pietro presents himself as "el aspirante" who inhales and exhales his breath filling a previously printed plastic bags with some words: Thirst, Forgiveness, Freedom, Cooperation, Tolerance, Patience, Friendship. To begin the action Pietro takes the ladder and moves it around on the street to attract attention. The action takes place while Pietro goes up and down the ladder and blows his breath into every bag with patience and concentration. After filling a bag, he gives it to any person who may be observing. I maintain a certain distance to take pictures; observe a sort of human circle forming around Pietro, slowly I make sense of the action and come to understand that in this performance an oracle, poetic and sublime, speaks. Upon receipt of the written word on a transparent plastic bag, the person reacts, feels surprised and relieved to get a reading of that moment. I received the word Thirst just as I finished my own action and felt it was the precise word for that moment. Pietro later handed me another bag with the word Forgiveness and asked me secretly to do something with it. Close by, a young woman gets the word Cooperation and laughs, looking pleased. Despite the natural disorder of the celebration and the restlessness of the  people there, this action had moments of glory where time stood still in slow motion. "El aspirante" is an intense performance, heartfelt, expressive, one that leaves an emotional imprint on the artist and the viewer at the same time.
